Questions About the Word Clock

What is ExtraClock?

ExtraClock is not an app that needs to be installed.
ExtraClock generates a personalized web link (URL) that you open in the browser of your chosen device.
The link works just like a bookmark.

Why no ExtraClock app?

ExtraClock is not an app that needs to be installed.
Simply open the link on the desired device, click "Fullscreen" or save it as an icon on the home screen (e.g., on an iPad).
That's it – the word clock will be displayed.

What do I receive when I order?

Once you have selected a language and a design, you will receive a personalized link via email,
which displays your individual word clock in full-screen mode – provided the fullscreen test was successful.

What does ExtraClock require?

  • A device with a web browser and internet access
  • The ability to use fullscreen mode on the device

This test can be performed, for example, in the showroom.

What do we need from you?

  • Your order for the desired word clock
  • Your email address so we can send you the link

What data do we store?

We store the email address, the order number, and a fingerprint of the device to prevent piracy.
The email address is needed to send you the link.
No other data is stored – no names or addresses!

Is it worth buying a used device?

A used device is available from around €30.
ExtraClock itself costs €19, so for about €50 you get a personalized designer word clock.
Other word clocks often cost several hundred to thousands of euros.
Buying or bidding on a used device can definitely be worth it!

Is there a warranty?

No – because there is no wear and tear. As long as the internet works, the word clock works too.

What if the link doesn’t work?

Just let us know the link that doesn't work – we’ll take care of it.

What can the Designer do?

With the Designer, you can personalize your word clock. You can choose as many languages
and/or dialects as you like. Up to 5 different backgrounds are possible. If your device can
play a video in the background, please select only one video. But make sure to test it on your
device first (older devices might not support this!).
Once you have selected languages/dialects/background (and optionally video), you can test the word clock in preview mode.
The display cycles through languages/dialects/backgrounds every 5 seconds – later every 30 seconds.

Are custom background images possible?

Yes – but not every image is suitable. We’ll gladly test and assess whether it works well.

When does a background video work?

That unfortunately depends on the age of the device. iPad1, iPad2 and older LG devices can only
display images as background. Older Kindle and Nexus devices, however, can play a
video as a background. Please test what works beforehand.

Can I change the design later?

Yes – if you’re not satisfied with your original design, it can be changed once free of charge.

What time is actually displayed?

The time and date shown are taken from the device settings –
not the server time.

How often does the word clock change?

In preview mode, the display changes every 5 seconds to quickly get an impression
of the design and appearance of the word clock.
In live mode, the display (languages, dialects and backgrounds) changes every 30 seconds.

How long does it take to receive the link?

Under normal demand, we estimate 1–3 business days after payment.

Device enters standby mode!

The word clock includes a built-in function to prevent the screen
from dimming or the device entering standby mode.
However, the local energy settings of your device still apply.

No internet connection!

No problem. Since the word clock is just a web link,
you can reopen it anytime once internet is available again.

Do I need a permanent internet connection?

No. An internet connection is only needed when the word clock starts.
After that, it runs offline on its own.

Which browser should I use?

Usually, Google Chrome or Safari are already installed on the device.
There’s no need to use any other browser.

How much electricity is used?

Smartphones or tablets consume on average 2–8 watts while charging.
TVs usually consume much more.
Example calculation at 6 watts continuous use:
0.006 kW × 24 h × 365 days = 52.56 kWh/year
At €0.40/kWh, that’s about €21 per year.
